ALSO

I wanted to put this in a seperate entry so it wouldn't get lost in work crap.

I've been thinking about this for awhile and I kind of want to do some sort of photo project thing. Basically what's been floating around in my mind is buying disposable cameras and mailing them off to people who feel like participating. When they get them, they take pictures (of whatever they want; themselves, their families, their houses, towns, pets, friends...whatever, the sky's the limit) and then mail the cameras back to me. After getting them, I'll get the film developed and then take the pictures I like and make some sort of scrapbook out of it (you can either request that the photos be sent back to you or I'll just dispose of them). Once the scrapbook is complete, I'll see about somehow making copies of it to mail to all of the participants. Or something.

It's a really rough idea of what I have in mind and obviously it will require quite a bit of financing (cameras, developing the film, making some sort of book out of all the pictures together) so I'll need to think on it more (maybe having everyone by their own disposable cameras and sending them to me or taking photos with a digital if they have one), but I really think it would be awesome to do something like this. And it wouldn't even have to be just for my own friends list, anybody could do it. It would be sort of like an LJ photo project for anyone who wants to participate.

But yeah. Would anyone even be interested in doing/seeing something like that?

Sounds like a pretty interesting idea.

It sounds pretty wicked to me. :D

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

This thought struck me originally, but when I first responded to this post it was via my phone.

Anyway, I was thinking that instead of (or instead of ONLY) hard copies, you could turn the whole project into a photo blog or possibly a Flickr photo set. I like the blog idea better, but I do think it would be neat either way. That way, you could maybe have a few people outside your typical circle of friends contribute, if you wanted this to be a larger-scale project.

I only pose this, because I have my own project I'm about to start up that I HAVE SPOKEN TO NOBODY ABOUT, BWAHAHAHA. And it will likely be in blog format, but I want mine to be long-term, and idk if your goal is an ongoing project or just a one-time, collect-'em-all-and-send-'em-off thing. Just some thoughts!

Holy crap! My run-on sentence-fu is amazing.

[identity profile] ishougen.livejournal.com 2009-04-29 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
ME ME ME!

I want to do it :D ♥

[identity profile] ishougen.livejournal.com 2009-04-29 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
also also - why don't you get people to buy their own cameras/etc and have them printed, and THEN mail them to you? I think shipping flat pictures would be easier than shipping a camera (although I really don't know). :'D just a thought ♥

[identity profile] stevenghost.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking of that, but my main concern is not everyone has the money to buy/print their own cameras/pictures. Then again, neither do I so I think that's going to be the way it has to be. And that way, if people decide they don't want to participate, I'm not out any money. ♥

This sounds like a really cool idea! Would this be a digital scrapbook or one that is a hard copy? If you need any help I'd be glad to help!

[identity profile] stevenghost.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking hard copy but now that I've thought about it more, I would only do that for the people who are willing to contribute money towards that. It would obviously be pretty expensive and I don't have that type of money lying around. So we could make however many copies necessary for whoever pays for them (obviously we wouldn't have them pay until we get them priced/shop around for the cheapest, most efficient way to do it) and then scan them so everyone could see the final project.

I have a feeling I'll need a lot of help as far as designing, research and presentation go so if this actually picks up and goes through, then we'll work together on it. ♥

I would be SO up for that! :D I would absolutely LOVE to be a part of that. Do you think it would be soon? Because pictures of me and Jillian won't be happening between May 23rd and August 22nd since we'll each be going to separate states for Summer Break ): and she and I do love camwhoring together.

But no matter when, I would still totally be up for doing it :D I love taking pictures, no matter what it's of. And...y'know what, I'll probably just buy a disposable camera over Summer and mail it to you anyway. Idaho has some of the prettiest sunsets that no one should miss.

Okay, okay xD you've got my yes for it. ♥

I'm honestly not sure when it would take place. I would obviously want the highest number of participants possible to make it diverse and unique so I think if I decide to follow through on it, I would want to do promotions and get feedback/ideas from other people on how to work it. Not to mention research on how to go about getting the book made.

And wow, that is really pretty. ♥ I'm glad you're along for the ride.

[identity profile] baka-tenshi.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I would totally would like to do that. :D ♥

[identity profile] dailysky.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:18 am (UTC)(link)

yes! but i also think that it's probably best if we print the pictures ourselves and mail them.

[identity profile] stevenghost.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. But now [livejournal.com profile] snowym's comment has gotten me thinking about doing just a comm. Although I really like the idea of an actual book. Maybe we could start small with a comm and then gradually collect and work from there? What do you think?

[identity profile] dailysky.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:31 am (UTC)(link)

that works too. i'd just have to find my sister's digital camera. and this way, i can photoshop myself so that i look stunning.

[identity profile] stevenghost.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
LMFAO THE POINT IS TO BE NATURAL AND REAL, NOT SHIN DONGHEE AND PHOTOSHOPPING YOUR ACNE OUT XDDD

I'm going to sit on it for a little bit before I decide. But get that digital camera out anyway. YOU STILL OWE ME A FACEBOOK PICTURE.

[identity profile] dailysky.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:36 am (UTC)(link)

w-what? i thought that photoshop was allowed. :( uh, jsyk, i look exactly like that - i'm a floating white cut-out of a person.

[identity profile] snowym.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
This idea's really neat ^_^!

Although, if you wanted to cut expenses... maybe just get a list of people to sign up to take pictures with their own digital cameras. And you can post the pictures online...

Maybe for each week, give everyone a theme? And post everyone's pictures in a group post? There could be deadlines and shit like that XD. Just turn it into an LJ comm, haha XD. Then everyone could comment on everyone else's photos, and it could turn into an extended thing that lasted as long as you wanted it to.

Otherwise, I can't imagine how much money you'd spend, when perhaps people would be more likely to see it on an LJ comm >.>;. Do what you want to, though! If you want a Japan perspective, I'm down for that XD.

[identity profile] stevenghost.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
While I like the idea of a comm, what I'm worried about is the fact that that's been done before. I want this to be a sort of fresh type of idea. The book is what makes it original. Although I guess starting small as a comm and working our way up towards a book gradually isn't a bad idea. But like I said, this is still new and I'm still tossing around ideas, so I'm not sure what will happen.

But you know I definitely want a Japan perspective so start taking pictures. ♥
